Kory Dollar Does It Again.
Behold! Another magnificent and gorgeous achievement by Kory Dollar. This superb creation that would make a captivating centerpiece in a fine home or an impressive enhancement at a prestigious office, just sold to a private collector today.
I find this piece deep and mesmerizing, a vibrant and colorful world drifting in motion, swaying with a mysterious undertow, it can put me in a trance.
I had to try and follow this unique undersea fusion with a stand that matches the beauty of the piece yet not detract from its meaning. When I viewed it for the first time, I knew exactly what my job would be, and frankly, so did she - we both simultaneously came to the same basic conclusion.
I made the base from a nice thick slab of Sweetgum, the grain enhanced from microbes that move in if the wood has fallen and left to decay. I took a dark hardwood, rich and sturdy walnut in which I cut deep channels along the sides. They are pillars that cradle the piece firmly yet does not obscure the artwork. I added extra support along the sides, triangular pieces made of teak salvaged from an old cabinet and I bored holes into them to emulate bubbles as if viewed from the bottom of the sea, their size progressively getting smaller as they float towards the distant surface.
Kory is a most phenomenal woman, We inspire each other to never stop thinking of ways to never stop thinking. She does this to all her friends by unleashing their creative power, showing them ways to keep believing in themselves as individual artists by giving them room to grow and to learn. Kory is a natural born teacher and a friend like no other. As if fate played a role, many years back when I had a novel idea on how to build by using reclaimed wood-frame windows, Kory was using the same style old windows as a blank canvass for her art! A perfect match,
Her undersea work of art instantly inspired me to create a frame worthy of her efforts, something to enhance the piece. The wood is first rubbed with mineral oil and then layered with several coats of hand rubbed carnauba wax and then buffed to a sheen.
An astonishingly beautiful piece now in the hands of someone who will go on appreciating its beauty. Way to go Kory!
Wow. She sounds interesting.
