I was approached by Alice to build a tiny place where she could continue her practice of helping others relieve their stress. I drove to Salem to view the landscape where it will stand. I always do this to tailor each project to the local environment. What I observed was nothing short of amazing! Both her and her husband are serious organic gardeners who have utilized every square foot of their back yard as a food oasis, with fruit-bearing trees, medicinal plants, beautiful flowers and lots and lots of edible plants.
They wanted this 8’ X 10’ home to sit directly over a small stream that will flow under it. Immediately upstream is a moderate size pond with large trees standing guard over the entire property. It’s a truly magical place.
I must confess that building this in these surroundings was a challenge, especially putting on the roof.
But, before it went to its forever home, it did a tour at the Recycled Arts Festival at Esther Short Park, Vancouver Washington. The portability of my projects is demonstrated by the way it cn be dismantled, put in the bed of a standard size pickup, and assembled on site in just a couple hours.
And here it is at the shop, being built and getting some ‘quality control’ sessions along the way…
