Realizing it has been over a month since my last post, and not wanting to post things trivial just to, you know, remain relevant, I thought it best to at least;
Check in an let you know I’m still alive (Captcha said I was not a robot).
Fill you in on the bright idea I came up with - How would all of you wonderful subscribers out there like to show the world what you have been creating? If any of it is on the frames, stands and other things I’ve made, keep reading!
Lastly, I thought it prudent that I provide a lame excuse for my absence (Yes teacher, the dog ate my Wifi).
As to the first item, Ergo Cognito Robotum - I think, therefore I am not a robot, this article didn’t post itself. Rest assured that AI is NOT taking over the world, no matter how much the entertainment media-industrial complex tries to hype it. I’m still here and fumbling over the keys with my sausage fingers as usual (The inventor of Spellcheck ought to be Knighted).
Secondly, the cool part. Inspired by Sally Odell who sent me the below picture saying, “Little Jewel Box Garden House.”, I thought up a fun project that will help every one of my dear readers and more…
If any of you are interested in showing off your art, PLEASE send in your pictures with a story attached and let us start something we can all get behind. You can email them to:
dave@neotericwoodart.com.
Just copy the link and post it in your recipient box.
Submit photos and a description of your project and I’ll post them here (on a different page of course). Can you imagine how big this could get as I compile all the stories and artwork into a gallery? I love doing stuff like that. If you personally help out with this, you will help everyone else find inspiration on their own future projects! If you have questions, you can alo leave a comment here and I’ll reply within 24 hours or your money back.
Lastly, this guy has been busy! With the cool, non-rainy weather we’ve had around here, I went on a two-week rampage and started clearing out all the clutter and mess around the property, and with all the windows and materials I have, it had become a disaster area! I also acquired some gardening tools for Kathie, (wink, wink, nudge, nudge) who has been on her own militant dandelion extermination campaign. She wears an evil grin as she rips those baddies out by the roots! Should I be concerned for my own safety? Nah...
Oh, and I got myself a keyboard too! You will no longer be subjected to the bland, insipid sounds of my laptop symphonies, but instead hear the rich, textured sounds of my bland and insipid compositions. Behold, the Kurzweil PC88!
The learning curve on this thing is brutal! I’m perusing about how the MIDI process works and to this dummy, it is a mind-numbing read. But I shall prevail!
Its the beginning of June and I’m back to making frames, but I did have a special project at the beginning of May. I was asked to make a display for a friend who is really into photography. He makes postcards of his work and lives in a resort town where he hopes to sell them to the summer influx of touranistas that flood the lodge where he works part-time.
I started with my finest piece of 13” wide, clear vertical grain red oak. I planed it down to a heavy 3/4”, routered the edges, sanded, hit it with steel wool and rubbed in a maple stain. I then purchased a can of Minwax Satin Polyurethane spray and applied three coats to perfection. After two days of shop work and one day for it to dry, I packaged it up and mailed it off. I don’t have any pictures of it in use, still waiting. I presume he likes it, at least he hasn’t asked for a refund. 😲
If any of you need such a thing, hit me up and I’ll make it so.
Anyway, that’s what has been going on and I hope this post was at least able to get you thinking about my proposal of starting a gallery. I think it would be a blast and best of all, it is free!
I hope the next post you see will be one filled with artesian projects and/or the many art studios, greenhouses and furniture I’ve built decorated and being used to the fullest. With all of that wonderful talent out there, it ought to be epic!
Looking forward to hearing from you!
