Like a breeze from the salty main, it begins slowly, builds into a wild crescendo, and then gently puts you on the soft blanket of a sunny, sandy shore.
[Note; I highly recommended the use of headphones, a home entertainment center, a car stereo, or earbuds for full enjoyment]
This song is partly about those youthful days of living in a sleepy little town on the Oregon coast where it seemed natural to just take each day as it came, drinking and laughing with good friends around a bonfire, or flying one of the many big kites I had, it was a time and place with a certain vibe where everyone in the small town minded their own affairs yet looked after each other in need.
Kind of like it ought to be.
This tune is also about friends, but from across the sea, friends I never met in real life but cherish just the same. Guido and Astrid live in a modest city of Galeen, Netherlands. Guido and I write about our shared interest - music, and we never run out of sharing our favorites. He basically “owns” Mix-Cloud.
Then one day things got serious for my friends when I learned that Astrid had a very serious health concern. This rocked me to my core and left me filled with the anxiety of being powerless to even comfort my friends. So, I did what I do best - create. From that day until early this morning on July 11, I worked night and day, every day, to try and capture the emotions I was feeling. I don’t know if you can sense it in the music, but my heart is in this as it is personal.
Guido will never boast about it, but he has been a huge motivation in my music endeavors, encouraging me when I had little but an old laptop and sick beyond description, those kind words kept me going and gave me hope. To that I am eternally humbled and grateful. This is why the long days and nights that perplexed Kathie, but sometimes a man, an artist, must do what he must do despite the world.
I will let him tell the story of their scare, but the good news is Astrid made a full recovery and will be fine - may they live happy ever after.
It turns out that I am doing much better as well! Doctors Hokum & Pokem did some good! I will elaborate in another post, but this is all good news.
A little more about the song:
The entire song was human made and without the use or assistance of any LLM’s or that ubiquitous a,i. people are so hyped up over. All I used was an old, off-the-shelf laptop, mixing software, and a 16 channel mixer, I don’t even own a sequencer - but wish I did plus a few other peripherals (wink, wink, nudge, nudge). As a human, there are plenty of lumps and bumps, splicing errors and some really bad production, but if you can look beyond that, the deeper meaning and purpose behind the music is its own reward.
If you like what you hear, a tip would help me buy better gear, like a sequencer, something noticeably absent on this tune.
Oh yeah, how about a preview of the next post; Kathie’s octagon mosaic - it’s, as the kids say, a banger!
Thanks for reading this story and listening to my humble efforts.
