Some nice music; “Girl In A Whirl” by James Clarke.
Simplex: A basic geometric element in a Euclidean space, being a line segment in one dimension, a triangle in two dimensions, a tetrahedron in three dimensions, and so on: used in topology and linear programming.
The two stands featured in this post were made especially for Kory Dollar Studios. They reflect my deep love of simplicity, clean lines and singularity of purpose. If this were architecture it would likely be described as “brutalism” for its stark, imposing and almost ‘brutish’ nature - kind of how I react to post-modernism - GRRRR...
The first one pictured below is made of throw-away scrap cutting-board. This is a perfect demonstration of just how much beauty there is in the smallest and most insignificant of things. All it takes is some imagination and applied enthusiasm for creating art. Easy peasy, right?
This next one is made of solid teak from an old cabinet I salvaged because somebody was throwing it away! As I was pawing through the last of my supply of this wonderful wood, I retrieved some small triangular scraps sitting on a dust-filled shelf. When I threw the pieces on to the workbench, after choking, the pattern became immediately clear.
The image below shows how this stand really enhances the ‘trunk’ of this fused glass item by allowing optimal light to pass through at just the right areas.
My lousy photographic skill proudly displayed in the below image, nonetheless here they are in action! The two fused glass pieces are from Kory Dollars’ Studio and Fun Factory. Look through any piece of translucent glass and you will see even more beauty.
Take a closer look at this one below. Made not only from old cutting-board or ‘butcherblock, the base is like a checkerboard because I cut it cross-grain, shifted the wood to the next component and glued it back. I love that look and the unbroken straight lines on the top now stand apart.
Pretty cool, don’t you think? A lot of work goes into everything I make and this platform ‘Substack’, provides excellent opportunity to showcase these efforts. Thank you for visiting, I really try to make your visit here enjoyable. If you think there is something I could do better or if there is something you want to see more of, please comment.
For what it's worth, Dave just made some picture frames for me. They, too are beautiful - though they are of my own design. He does good work.
